Pilar De La Cruz-Samoulian

Pilar De La Cruz (Reyes) Samoulian is a Registered Nurse with over 50 years of practice experience. She has also been a widow twice; has helped support patient’s family members when they lose a loved one and she has also known the pain of losing a soul mate. She worked at Fresno Community Hospital for 34 years and served as the Chief Nurse at the Fresno Heart Hospital for 3 years before retiring from hospital work. She worked for the Hospital Council of Central California and was also recruited by the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care to serve as their Diversity Director before moving to Chula Vista, CA, to be the Dean of a nursing school that was nearly closed down by the California Board of Registered Nursing. After two years, she retired again and was hired by California State University, Fresno, to serve as the Director of the Central California Center for Excellence in Nursing on a part-time basis. In 2015 she was appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to serve as a member of the California Board of Registered Nursing. After working for  4 years for Fresno State, she again retired and was recruited by the Diocese of Fresno to run a 2-year grant provided by Catholic Extension to reach Hispanics and do health education in Spanish. Last year she took a chance on love again and married David Samoulian. She has 4 sons and 4 grandchildren and plans to retire sometime in the future; this time for good.
